About the Role

The Diseases of Aging and Regenerative medicine (DARe) Disease Area is seeking a highly motivated and talented dual wet-lab-computational expertise Postdoctoral Fellow to join our Translational and Data Science Team in Basel, CH. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a versatile and multidisciplinary team dedicated to investigating the diverse clinical phenotypes and underlying molecular causes of the diseases of aging (pathologies) with an early focus on osteoarthritis using high resolution and multimodal omics technologies. The selected candidate will work in our wet and dry labs and collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows in a lively scientific community and with scientists from various disciplines and platforms including 300+ data scientists globally, Omics- and translational medicine experts.

As a Discovery Postdoctoral Fellow in Translational and Data Science Team, you will have the chance to work with patient samples, large multi-omics datasets and state-of-the-art technologies including scRNAseq, bulkRNAseq, proteomic, metabolomics, imaging and histology. You will work on a cross-functional project with internal and external collaborators (e.g. clinical partners) that aims to define molecular pathologies and disease biomarkers in phenotypically well-characterized symptomatic osteoarthritis (OA) patients that are scheduled for elective total knee arthroplasty.
Discovery Fellows have a unique opportunity to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research and are expected to publish their results in leading journals. We collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries, with a focus on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. You will join our postdoctoral community for dedicated events, including the monthly postdoctoral seminars and our annual Research Day Symposium. All Fellows participate in our robust curriculum designed to develop scientific and professional skills. The postdoctoral term is up to 4 years.

Duration: 36 to 48 months

Key responsibilities
As a Discovery Fellow, you will:
• Investigate the pathophysiology of tissues of the joint using patient samples and cutting-edge technologies
• Investigate and combine pathophysiology datasets with clinical and patient parameters
• Contribute to the potential identification of bio- and pathology marker candidates to stratify patient populations
• Innovate and drive forward-thinking research initiatives.
• Embrace a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach
• Develop and nurture relationships with key collaborators and stakeholders
• Present research findings and insights at internal and external meetings
• Stay updated with the latest research trends and advancements

Role Requirements

Role Requirements:
• PhD in cell biology, medical science, computational biology or a related discipline (ideally a combination of wet lab and computational) PhD students in the last year of their thesis work are eligible to apply)
• Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture, in vitro disease models, Immunohistochemistry and molecular biology.
• Proven experience in statistical analysis, integration and interpretation of omics data including single cell, bulkRNAseq, proteomic and clinical parameters in R and/or Python.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
• Ability to work independently, and collaboratively in a matrix environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong publication record or other scientific achievements (i.e. awards, patents, grants)

Desirable requirements:
• Proficiency in next generation sequencing technologies (genomics, single cell spatial Tx),
• Experience in working in a high-performance computing environment.
• Experience in extracting, integrating analyzing and visualizing other biomedical data (genetics, imaging, or RWE)
