Summary

Location: Millburn, New Jersey (on-site) About the role: At Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company, we are committed to leading innovation in nuclear medicine and delivering the next generation of targeted radioligand therapy to cancer patients. We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental professional with previous ownership of radiation safety programs to help us reach our ambitious goals. As the Radiation Safety Lead, you will be responsible for all compliance activities related to Radiation Safety and will be responsible for implementing programs to accomplish Novartis and local regulations and policies. This role reports directly into the HSE Site Head.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Function as the Site Radiation Safety subject matter expert and collaborate with operations and technical teams to safely manage radioactive materials from raw materials to finished product and waste disposal.
  • Manage the implementation and execution of the Radiation Safety roadmap defined by Novartis, working closely with all functions within the site and the broader Novartis organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure adherence to all regulatory compliance standards applicable to the site and Company including Radiation Safety, Governance, Business Continuity & Emergency Management and Environmental Health and Safety
  • Maintain a work environment that protects employees from radiation exposure. Maintain radiation safety program (personal monitoring program, maintain equipment monitoring and training requirements).
  • Ensure that environmental program for radiation waste is maintained according to the EPA/NRC regulations.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, health and safety, engineering, or related field or a minimum of 4 additional years of relevant experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a Health and Safety role, including at least 2 years of Radiation Safety experience.  Experience in a cGMP environment is preferred. 
  • Experience building an injury and error-free culture with advanced knowledge of multiple US compliance areas (EPA, OSHA, NRC, etc.) is required.
  • Certification or training in radiation safety is also preferred.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $118,400 and $177,600 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24 fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
