About the Role
Major accountabilities:
- Identify access gaps for current and pre- launch products (reimbursement limitations, government budget allocation, major Health Care institution priorities, etc...) and explore priorities/ solutions and implement Value & Access plan.
- Understand the interrelationship between indications and products for pricing & market access, linking pricing and access strategies to help support longer DoT of Patients and Financial sustainability for the organization.
- Constantly monitor environmental changes in healthcare sector to capture and anticipate different scenario evolutions and transform into proactive actions to sustain competitive advantage. Develop innovative strategic responses to the most important trends, through internal and external collaborations and interactions.
- Support pricing & Value and Access operational plan including threats and opportunities for desired positioning.
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders (Private health insurers, Government, Institutional Authorities, KEE’s and physicians, distribution chain, administrators, Pharmacists and Patient associations)
- Ensure qualitative and quantitative input into Budget and Strategic Plans for planning accuracy.
- Ensure implementation of global/regional strategy at local level.
- Price proposal and approval process management in alignment with local, regional and global process for both private and public market.
- Champion with country management initiatives on Brand Defence, Brand Maximization, Intellectual Property matters.
- Effectively support introduction of new compounds rapidly into the market for the widest commercial indications, at a price reflecting the value of the new compound.
- Responsibilities related to regional/country needs:
- Understand which competitors have strong performance and uncover what is working for them.
- Provide support to the Marketing area for building strategies and implementation of promotion activities within the country, supporting new product launch strategies (participating in launch readiness reviews).
- Develop Access Models and support implementation in the country.
- Leading in development and implementing listing and reimbursement.
- Reporting of technical complaints / adverse events / special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt.
- Work with stakeholders such as policy makers, managed care organizations, customers, patients, governments, etc., to make Novartis the most respected entity in the SA healthcare industry.
- Provide support to the Marketing area for building strategies and implementation of promotion activities within the country, supporting new product launch strategies (participating in launch readiness reviews).
- Strong analytical skills to develop pricing business cases and analyse market trends which inform local strategy setting on new launches and existing brands pricing through the lifecycle management of products.
- Responsibility to submit for price increases, updating the internal pricing systems and governance, maintaining external pricing database for all Novartis products, with a high level of accuracy, urgency and attention to detail.
- May be assigned to take care of projects from time to time and as needed by the organization.
Minimum Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
University degree: Life sciences / Health Economics / Health Management
Advance Education (preferred):
Advance Degree in Health (e.g. Master’s)
Work Experience:
At least 5 years in pharma / healthcare environment, ideally in the following areas:
Commercial (Sales, Marketing or Market Access) – key to the role
Project management and implementation
Government and private funder negotiations
Exposure to registration process & reimbursement dossier compilation
Exposure to pricing management
Advanced knowledge of pricing and reimbursement environment within the Cluster
Excellent knowledge of managed care, managed care decision-making and the healthcare environment
